What Is A WINZ Moving Quote?
WINZ is a commonly used name for Work and Income. A WINZ moving quote is a written quote that outlines the expected cost of moving your household belongings from one address to another.
Work and Income may ask for proof of your expected moving costs when assessing an application for assistance. A quote from a moving company can provide this information. The quote is based on the information you provide — undisclosed furniture, difficult access or changes to either address may require a revised quote.

Help With Moving Costs Through Work And Income
Work and Income offers a Moving Costs Grant for some people moving into accommodation who do not have enough money to meet the moving costs themselves.
Despite being called a grant, the payment generally needs to be repaid. Work and Income will arrange a repayment plan based on the applicant's financial circumstances.
You do not necessarily need to be receiving a benefit to apply. Work and Income considers each person's circumstances, including residency, income, assets, accommodation and available support. We provide the moving quote — Work and Income assesses the application and decides whether assistance will be provided.

Work and Income generally expects the new accommodation to be suitable and affordable over the longer term, and will consider whether the Moving Costs Grant is the right form of assistance. Moving company costs may be considered when a person is unable to help with the move because of age, illness, disability or another accepted circumstance. Eligibility can only be confirmed by Work and Income.

Eligible applicants can currently receive payment up to twice within 12 months, with a combined limit of $1,500. Different limits may apply in exceptional circumstances, at Work and Income's discretion.

If your move includes storage, ask your case manager which costs can be considered before requesting approval. Packing support may also need to be discussed with your case manager – we can list requested Auckland packing services separately so Work and Income can assess the cost.

Give The Quote To Your Case Manager
Provide our written quote as proof of the expected cost. Your case manager will assess it alongside the rest of your application.
Wait For Approval
Don't assume the move is funded until Work and Income confirms the decision — they may approve the full quote, part of it, or request more information.
Send Us The Approval Details
Once you receive a decision, send us the confirmation and payment instructions. Work and Income may pay you directly or pay the supplier.

A quote does not reserve a truck or crew — a $100 deposit is required to secure the agreed date.

Our standard Auckland moving rate is $110 per hour excluding GST. This includes two trained movers and a fully equipped medium-sized truck. A one-off $50 call-out fee excluding GST also applies.
